Stephanie Phillips

14_Totems

These ceramic totems are symbolic of the beauty of the native botanical flora and landscape of Pearl Beach. Abstracted banksia seed pods adorn some totems whilst piercings in another are a nod to the pippies submerging themselves in the sand. Unglazed pieces represent brown bark and white sand, whilst green glazed pieces might remind one of the foliage that surrounds them.

Stephanie Phillips’ ceramic work is bold, textural, architectural, and always sculptural. She playfully manipulates negative space in and around each piece, making forms that are abstract and jaunty while at the same time monumental. She has exhibited in Australia and in Europe and the USA.
